WHS v Otaki College (14/05/10)

WHS were entering this game without two of their best players. Although Otaki were at the bottom of the table, it was still going to be a test to see how well the team could handle themselves without our normal depth.

As expected, WHS came out very agressive scoring an impressive 34 points in the first quarter. Hamdi Yusuf was leading the charge, receiving several well placed passes from returning point guard Tarquin Smith. Tarquin finished the game with 10 points and 6 assists which has been his best outing this season. He has really established himself as our leading point guard after Fridays game and seems to be growing with confidence in every match.

Jayden Smith really stepped his game up with the absence of Dier Makoii. His best game in a WHS uniform yet, Jayden scored 22 points, picked up 17 rebounds, threw 6 assists and came away with 6 steals in what was probably the best all round performance from anyone this season. Well done Jayden.

Hamdi proved to be the deciding factor of the night, scoring a season team high 44 points from the field. Unstopable with the ball in hand, he also shoved his defensive prowess with 10 steals. Three more rebounds would have seen Hamdi achieve the first triple double of the season. A feat very few players in basketball achieve.

Two other players scored in double figures with Fraser Eruera and Tarquin Talivai-Johnson each scoring 10 points. Both contributed well with plenty of assists and rebounds. Sam Keller and Dier return to the team this week and we are looking to continue our unbeaten run with a strong performance against St Pat's Silverstream. Come along at 7:30 pm to support us at home!
